Lack of capacity is a major challenge to disaster risk management (DRM) due to the multidisciplinary nature of DRM, paired with lack of competent human resources and specialists with adequate knowledge and skills to support DRM agenda. This case study


aims to demonstrate how the Moodle platform can be used to improve DRM capacity of local and national governments, non-governmental organisations, international organisation, academia, and private sector. In 2006, Earthquakes and Megacities Initiative (EMI) launched the Natural Disaster Risk Management Program (NDRMP), a global distance learning program composed of ten (10) expert-facilitated online courses. It provides an opportunity for students to interact with subject matter experts and fellow learners from all over the world, providing a practical learning experience with a global perspective. With over 1500 graduates from 71 countries, the NDRMP has proved that Moodle is an effective platform for DRM education.
